I'm on holidayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!! :) No, not on the sun-kissed beaches of Goa or some such exotic destination, but in my home town - Vishakhapatnam, or Vizag as its popularly known. But yes, it does have more than its share of beautiful beaches and hills, and its home. I'm getting to spend an entire month at home, and more importantly with mom after 3 whole years! So this is my first proper 'Maayka' visit after my marriage.... And that's the reason I haven't blogged in a while :)
This post in particular has been long overdue... I made this supremely easy and delicious dessert a few months ago after reading the recipe on fellow foodie Karishma's blog. Thanks Kary for introducing me to this super simple and yummy Apple Crumble!
I had put up a status message on FB when I made this for the first time and I was flooded with requests for the recipe... It really is one of the easiest desserts to whip up and comes without the added guilt of calorie-laden chocolate, butter or sugar in excess! In short, one of the least-sinful ways to satisfy that sweet tooth :)
Today I'm going to make this again for my brother who has been hounding me to do something with all the apples lying in the fridge...
Ingredients
Topping:
Wheat Flour/Atta/Multigrain flour - 1/2 cup
Sugar - 2-3 tbsp (you can use brown sugar)
Butter - 50 gms
Cinnamon powder - 1/2 tsp
You can also add some cornfalkes/wheatflakes or oats if u want a crunchy texture.
Base:
Apples - 2
Cinnamon powder - 1/2tsp
Sugar - 2 tbsp (Brown sugar)
A dash of lemon juice
In a bowl mix together the flour, sugar and cinnamon powder. Take the butter at room temperature and break it into little pieces with your hand into the flour. Now start rubbing the butter into the flour gently. You should be left with a bread crumbs like mixture at the end of it.
Peel, core and slice the apples thinly. Mix in the cinnamon powder and sugar and sprinkle a few drops of lemon juice. Stir well and transfer this into a glass or ceramic bowl. Spread the apple slices evenly at the bottom of the bowl. Now spread the topping flour mixture on top evenly.
Pre heat the oven to 180 degree C. Place the bowl in the oven and bake for 20-25min or till the topping starts turning brown. Take it out and let it cool. Serve warm with ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Hello, Swati. I found your blog on Blogging Women. Love your recipes and beautiful pictures. I enjoyed reading about your own journey to discover the joys of cooking and it's so interesting to read about restaurants in Mumbai. I was in India a few years ago, but didn't get to visit Mumbai, and would love to get back someday.
